Onsite Sewage Disposal

The Environmental Health Specialists work with the homeowners, installers, and soil scientists to provide the following services

  • Educating the homeowners on septic system operation
  • Conducting a site evaluation which includes a topographic characterization
  • Reviewing the soil profile analysis for each new construction and many repair systems
  • Tailoring an OSS system for individual sites based on size of the home and site/soil profile information
  • Providing permits, consultations, and inspections for all new construction and repair of OSS systems

Homeowners who wish to learn about the operation or location of their system should contact us to arrange a consultation or a diagram of their system.

Onsite evaluations must be solicited from a Certified Soil Scientist. We can provide a list of those working in our area for your convenience. Fees and times are at their discretion.

Call our office with the address and we will check to see if we have a diagram on file. (812) 435-2400, option 3.

You may contact a septic installer/contractor to help you locate your system.

Currently, Vanderburgh County does not have a Well Ordinance.

Contact the Environmental Health Division and advise us of any changes you are proposing to make. 

See the Septic System Permit Application Packet and submit the application to our office.

Contact our office with the following information: name and address of location, name of contractor/person installing system, materials being used, pictures to document installation and any other information you may have (license plate – DOT number of equipment). Call (812) 435-2400, option 3, or email health@vanderburghcounty.in.gov.

A permit costs $200.00. We accept cash, check, or credit card; however, a $3.95 fee is charged for credit card transactions.

A septic permit is good for one (1) year.
