Health Promotion
The Vanderburgh County Health Department cares about the community’s health and realized the importance of prevention and early detection. Poor lifestyle habits such as an unbalanced diet, cigarette smoking, lack of proper exercise, and excessive stress are all prominent risk factors for the leading cause of death in the United States. Through education, prevention, and changes in lifestyles, however, individuals have the capability to enhance their well-being. Our goal in health education is to educate, enhance, and motivate individuals to strive for optimal health.
OUR SERVICES:
“I am so happy I participated in this program.... I know I will probably have slip ups but it’s what I do after those slip ups that will mean success or failure. I know I am strong enough to make it a success. Thank you for helping me through this and helping me start the habit of not smoking.”

“I recommend the Matter of Balance course to seniors of all ages. The goal-oriented class sessions provided practical strategies in how to keep moving through manageable life changes and daily physical activities. Each class also offered relevant videos and materials to lessen the fear of falling. The instructors provided a welcoming, engaging, and stress-free environment. They provided specific exercises to increase strength, coordination, and balance. In conclusion, the Matter of Balance course helped me to shift my thoughts on how to prevent falls.”
